SELF PORTRAIT HOW-TO: To achieve the self portrait below, I used a tripod and manually focused on a piece of tape on the floor where I would be standing. For lighting, I placed my off-camera flash on the counter facing away from me. I bounced the light off of a small 3-panel white board that stood only 5 inches away. It was angled 45-degrees from the front of my face to obtain catch-lights in the corners of my eyes. I then attached string to the tape on the floor and pulled it straight up towards my eyes. This gave me a better chance of being in the plane of focus. Let's just say it didn't happen the first [ten] times. Take-home lesson: keep trying!
