Posted in: JOURNALING | PROJECTS ![]() This year marks the start of a new family tradition in our home. I asked my son nearly 3 year old son, Landon, if he would like one of Santa's elves to visit us every day until Christmas. He nodded, completely unaware of what was to come. My husband. Mike, and i asked him this same question over the course of the day to reinforce the idea and cause some excitement. We knew he would think the elf was cute, but we honestly weren't sure how much of the concept he would pick up on. Regardless. we wanted to embark on this magical journey as soon as we'd been introduced to it! After running a day's worth of Christmas errands, we returned home with the news that Santa was sending one of his pixie elves to our house very soon! There was a book waiting for us that gave insight into our future house guest. I read it to Landon, making sure to point out every picture of the elf i could find. If nothing else, I wanted him to at least recognize the elf when he saw him in person. The book told us that our elf would visit at night when we were all sleeping and be waiting for us in the morning. He would not be able to move once someone was awake, nor would he be able to speak. But he could watch and hear all throughout our house. Then each night, as we fell back asleep, our elf would report back to Santa with all sorts of happenings from the day, especially news of Landon's good (or bad) behavior. If Landon was good, Santa would leave gifts for him on Christmas eve, and take our little elf with him until next year. DECEMBER 7, 2013 | We had a function to attend tonight, but told Landon that when we came back home there might be an elf there waiting for us. "Santa said he's going to send us one of his elves to our house! Do you want to try to find him tonight if he comes?" Landon was very excited. We returned home and turned on the TV to watch a movie. Suddenly we hear "Momma, Daddee! LOOK!! Up dare, look!!" Landon directed our attention to the top of the TV, where a tiny elf sat holding a CD that read: "Hi landon! I'm your elf! My name is Dingle Berry". Landon started dancing around the room, calling out "Dingle watch, watch Dingle!" as he twirled and tumbled around the room. His reaction was far beyond what Mike and I had dreamed of. He was truly excited to see Dingle. Dingle is bound to make this season extra special for all three of us and we can't help but wonder where we will find him tomorrow morning! |
